CASS Introduces Savory Selects for Seniors

Picture
May 18, 2010 - Cincinnati Area Senior Services has introduced a novel concept for seniors who receive Meals-on-Wheels from CASS: Savory Selects for Seniors. Enrolled seniors get a "menu" of food choices, including entrees, side dishes and drinks, and they select which foods they want to have delivered to their door.

CASS currently delivers Meals to more than 800 Hamilton County seniors in need, and the demand continues to grow. By providing seniors with a choice of foods that they receive, we are better serving the needs of our clients - the seniors. We like to respond to their requests, not just provide them with a standard meal.

Partial funding for the Senior Center's congregate meals and Meals on Wheels programs comes through the U.S. Administration on Aging, a division of Sebelius' Health and Human Services Department.

Record Number of Companies Fill CASS Pantry

Picture
December, 2009 - With the CASS Pantry Drive now in its third year, nearly 50 companies helped us fill our pantry. These generous organizations held food drives within their companies, encouraging participation through friendly competitions and other events to boost employee participation and donations that will benefit CASS seniors.

Participating companies collected non-perishable food and personal care items that will be provided to seniors throughout the year when their pantries are bare and their cash flow depleted. Our supply of food will last for the next few months. To have your company help us keep the CASS pantry filled, contact Mary Jo Gamm at (513)721-4330.

"Dancing is a  great exercise at any age, and the seniors enjoy moving to the music of their youth. It's also a chance for them to get dressed up and spend an afternoon socializing with friends."

CASS Receives O4A Partnership Award

Picture
October 21, 2009 - CASS, the Council on Aging of Southwestern Ohio and The Derringer Company have received the Outstanding AAA/Provider Partnership Award for 2009 from the Ohio Association of Area Agencies on Aging (O4A). The award honored the three organizations for quick thinking and action in getting much-needed meals and food boxes to seniors in the days following Hurricane Ike.

Presented annually by the O4A, the Partnership Award is given to Area Agencies on Aging and community organizations for interesting and unique accomplishments done in partnerships during the past year. The COA nominated CASS and Derringer, a home-delivered meals supplier, for this award. After the windstorm hit southwestern Ohio last September, these two organizations collaborated with the COA to provide home-delivered meals and shelf-stable groceries to homebound seniors affected by the massive power outage.

"We could not have done this initiative without the help of CASS and Derringer," said COA CEO Suzanne Burke. "CASS Executive Director Tracey Collins was out in the community and brought to our attention the need to provide food to everyone in the senior housing complexes, not just the Meals on Wheels clients. We needed to go above and beyond."
