Girl Scouts Donate Cookies to Seniors

Thanks to the generosity of local Brownie and Girl Scout troops, seniors who receive Meals-on-Wheels were also treated to Girl Scout cookies. Through the Cookie Share program, individuals can buy cookies to be donated to local social service agencies. Thanks to the 13 troops who selected CASS to receive their donated cookies, CASS received almost 800 boxes! A special “shout out” goes to CASS board members John Dakoske and Emily Pan who matched the cookies donated by two of the troops with 191 and 63 boxes donated respectively. Girl Scout cookies always put a smile on the faces of our seniors.

CASS Receives Schell Grant for Meals-on-Wheels Vehicle

Thanks to the Josephine Schell Russell Charitable Trust, PNC Bank, Trustee, for a $22,000 grant to replace one of CASS’ Meals-on-Wheels delivery vans. As the largest provider of Meals-on-Wheels in Greater Cincinnati, it is vital that we have the vehicles to continue to deliver Meals to seniors in need. In 2011, CASS delivered more than 350,000 Meals.

CASS Participates in XU’s Careers in Aging Panel

CASS Executive Director Tracey Collins recently participated in Xavier University’s “Careers in Aging” panel discussion. The panel was comprised of professionals who work with seniors, and was designed to help individuals interested in pursuing a career in working with the growing senior population.

CASS Seniors Enjoy Findlay Market Parade

CASS seniors celebrated the Cincinnati Reds Opening Day at the Over-the-Rhine Senior Center by enjoying lunch, and taking a seat outside to watch the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade. Seniors groups from Price Hill, Hillcrest and Maple Tower joined in the fun at the OTR Center, now an annual tradition.

Councilmembers Participate in Mayors for Meals Campaign

During March elected officials across the country help deliver Meals-on-Wheels to seniors in their communities as part of the Mayors for Meals campaign. This annual event brings awareness to the issue of senior hunger and how local Meals-on-Wheels programs are providing nutritious meals seniors who are unable to cook for themselves. CASS thanks Cincinnati Councilmembers Chris Seelbach and Wendell Young for participating and helping with deliveries to CASS clients.

Cold Weather Items Needed

With the cold weather here, Greater Cincinnati seniors need your help in staying warm. We are collecting items to give warm care packages for seniors and are looking for donations of hand warmers, warm socks, gloves, tea bags, instant coffee packets, oatmeal packets and more. P&G Brings Holiday Cheer to OTR Senior Center

Thank you to the Brand Management Team from P&G’s ERA/Dreft for bringing holiday cheer to the seniors at CASS’ Over-the-Rhine Senior Center. They recently spent the morning with the seniors, icing and decorating cookies and making Christmas stockings. And, each senior also received a gift bag filled with P&G products. Just one more example of how P&G supports so many agencies in our community.

CASS Receives Walmart “12 Days of Giving” Grant

CASS has been chosen to receive a $10,000 grant on Day Three of the Walmart Foundation’s “12 Days of Giving” Facebook campaign. CASS is one of 145 organizations nationwide and one of 10 senior service agencies selected from more than 5,400 nominations to receive a grant. Click here to learn more.
