Cold Weather Items Needed

With the cold weather here, Greater Cincinnati seniors need your help in staying warm. We are collecting items to give warm care packages for seniors and are looking for donations of hand warmers, warm socks, gloves, tea bags, instant coffee packets, oatmeal packets and more. P&G Brings Holiday Cheer to OTR Senior Center

Thank you to the Brand Management Team from P&G’s ERA/Dreft for bringing holiday cheer to the seniors at CASS’ Over-the-Rhine Senior Center. They recently spent the morning with the seniors, icing and decorating cookies and making Christmas stockings. And, each senior also received a gift bag filled with P&G products. Just one more example of how P&G supports so many agencies in our community.

CASS Receives Walmart “12 Days of Giving” Grant

CASS has been chosen to receive a $10,000 grant on Day Three of the Walmart Foundation’s “12 Days of Giving” Facebook campaign. CASS is one of 145 organizations nationwide and one of 10 senior service agencies selected from more than 5,400 nominations to receive a grant. Click here to learn more.

The Walmart Foundation is awarding $1.5 million to agencies providing basic needs and services in their communities. Thank you to the Walmart Foundation for their generous support and concern for those in need.

CASS Receives Cambridge Foundation Grant

CASS has received a $5,000 grant from the Ralph L. Klotz and Claire Klotz Charitable Fund of the Cambridge Foundation. The grant funds will be used to replace a refrigerator at the agency’s congregate meal site at the Over-the-Rhine Senior Center and to provide operating support for CASS’ Meals-on-Wheels and senior transportation program.

CASS Named Finalist in Best Places to Work

CASS was named a finalist in the Business Courier’s 2011 Best Places to Work. This was the first time that CASS entered this competition, and we are excited to be named a finalist in this prestigious award. A big thanks to our employees for participating in this event.

Community Cares Days Companies Stock CASS Food Pantry

CASS keeps a pantry to provide the food and personal care items seniors need but aren’t always able to afford. Three companies helped stock our pantry as part of their United Way Community Care Days. Lyondell Basell donated 2,399 cans of food to stock the pantry. And, the Scientific Affairs Department at Ethicon Endo-Surgery and Kroger provided 5 tons of pet food for the seniors’ furry friends. Thanks to these and all of the companies who support CASS seniors.

CASS Opens Lincoln Heights Congregate Meal Site

Beginning on November 1, seniors can enjoy lunch with their peers at the White Cliff Apartments on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. The suggested donation for each meal is $1.00. CASS transportation is available within Lincoln Heights to transport the seniors to the site for lunch. More information is available in our Neighborhood Meal Sites section. Liz Harkness from CASS will be onsite between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

CASS Receives Building the Future Vision Grant

CASS has received a $50,000 Building the Future Vision grant from the Walmart Foundation and the Meals-on-Wheels Association of America. The grant will be used to provide technology support for Savory Selects, a home-delivered meal program which gives seniors a weekly choice of 31 entrées and side items. CASS is one of 20 Meals-on-Wheels programs nationwide selected to receive funding for innovative senior nutrition programs.

Ernst & Young Spends Day at OTR Center

As part of its annual United Way Connect Day, Ernst & Young employees threw a September birthday party for seniors at the Over-the-Rhine Senior Center. The day included crafts, lunch and cake and ice cream. Each senior also received a gift bag with lotion, lip balm and a Kroger gift card. Thanks Ernst & Young for creating a day of fun for the seniors and choosing CASS as one of your seven Connect Day projects.
