CASS, the Council on Aging of Southwestern Ohio and The Derringer Company have received the Outstanding AAA/Provider Partnership Award for 2009 from the Ohio Association of Area Agencies on Aging (O4A). The award honored the three organizations for quick thinking and action in getting much-needed meals and food boxes to seniors in the days following Hurricane Ike.
Presented annually by the O4A, the Partnership Award is given to Area Agencies on Aging and community organizations for interesting and unique accomplishments done in partnerships during the past year. The COA nominated CASS and Derringer, a home-delivered meals supplier, for this award. After the windstorm hit southwestern Ohio last September, these two organizations collaborated with the COA to provide home-delivered meals and shelf-stable groceries to homebound seniors affected by the massive power outage.
“We could not have done this initiative without the help of CASS and Derringer,” said COA CEO Suzanne Burke. “CASS Executive Director Tracey Collins was out in the community and brought to our attention the need to provide food to everyone in the senior housing complexes, not just the Meals on Wheels clients. We needed to go above and beyond.”
